2. Information we collect and why
Account and contact information

Depending on the features you use, we may collect your name, personal or account email address, authentication information, preferences and professional information such as industry, current role, company name, department, seniority, company size and work email address. A work email and other professional fields may be required if you choose the free Premium account. The fields marked as required will be shown in the Premium form at the time of collection. We use account information for authentication, account administration, support and delivery of requested features. We may use professional information to understand our professional audience, improve the Service and, where permitted by law and subject to applicable choices, support relevant marketing and advertising. Providing professional information for Premium access does not by itself authorize optional marketing or targeted advertising.

Reading activity and interests

We collect reading history, searches, saved stories, preferences, notification choices, feedback and other product interactions associated with the features we make available. These help us deliver and personalize news, remember selections, analyse use, improve the Service and, where permitted, select and measure advertising. We may infer business interests from this information. We do not use prompts, logs or inferred interests to construct sensitive advertising segments.

Device and usage information

We may collect IP addresses, device and browser information, operating system, app version, advertising or device identifiers where permitted, cookie identifiers, crash and diagnostic logs, analytics events, push-notification tokens and interactions with our website, app and communications. We use this information for service operation, security, troubleshooting, analytics, notifications, product improvement and permitted advertising. IP addresses may indicate an approximate location. We do not request precise device location for the current Service.

Communications and content you submit

We collect information you submit through questions, comments, support requests or other interactive features we make available. Where applicable, the feature will indicate whether a submission is public, private, sent to support or processed by Al. We use submissions to provide the requested feature, respond to you, moderate unlawful or abusive activity and resolve complaints. A private support message or private Al prompt is not made public merely because you send it. Do not submit passwords, confidential employer information, trade secrets or sensitive information about yourself or another person unless the feature specifically requires it and you have a lawful basis to provide it.

News-source information

We receive news articles and associated information from news suppliers, including NewsAPI.ai and other sources used by BizByte Articles may identify executives and other people discussed in the news. We process this information to prepare, check, summarise, classify and publish business-news content, provide related features and handle corrections. Editorial information is distinct from subscriber-account information. An account-deletion request does not automatically require removal of lawful reporting or editorial records that we are entitled or required to retain.

Sensitive information

We do not request precise location, contacts, financial-account details, biometrics or health information as part of the current Service. Login credentials receive appropriate protection and may qualify as sensitive personal information under applicable law. News content or user submissions may nevertheless contain information we did not request. Please do not submit unnecessary sensitive information.

3. Artificial intelligence

We use Claude, an Al model from Anthropic, through an API service to generate short news summaries, typically about 60 words. Published summaries are subject to BizByte's editorial review process before publication. Where an Al question or Deep Dive feature is enabled, the question and relevant story context may be sent to the identified Al provider to generate a response. The feature will provide any disclosure or permission required before transmission. We do not use acceptance of this Privacy Policy or our Terms of Use as consent for optional model training on personal information. We do not intentionally submit subscriber identifiers, private messages or private Al prompts for optional general-purpose model training unless separately disclosed and permitted by applicable law. Al inputs and outputs may be retained for the period reasonably required to provide, secure and improve the feature and as required by applicable provider terms, legal obligations and the retention rules described in this Policy.

4. Who receives information
Operational providers

We may use service providers for hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, notifications, business communications, security, customer support and other functions required to operate the Service. Our current infrastructure includes AWS, Google Workspace and Firebase, to the extent the relevant services or modules are enabled. Providers receive only the information reasonably required for their role and are subject to appropriate contractual, confidentiality and security obligations.

Al providers

Al providers receive the information described in Section 3 when an Al feature requires processing. We do not provide news suppliers with user identifiers or private user information merely because they supply editorial content.

Advertising and measurement partners

Where we use advertising, attribution or audience-measurement services, we may disclose information such as advertising identifiers, device information, IP address, app activity and relevant audience or interest information, subject to applicable law, permissions and user choices. Where applicable law treats a disclosure as a sale, sharing or targeted advertising, BizByte will provide the applicable notice and opt-out mechanism.

Legal, professional and corporate disclosures

We may disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, courts, law-enforcement authorities or other parties where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or security incidents, or support a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.

5. Cookies, analytics and advertising choices

We may use cookies, SDKs, app identifiers and similar technologies. Essential technologies support security, authentication and requested settings. Other technologies may measure activity, personalise content or support advertising and audience measurement. Where applicable law requires consent for non-essential tracking or advertising technologies, we will request consent before activating them and provide an accessible way to reject or withdraw consent. Where applicable law provides a right to opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising, we will provide the required mechanism. For Apple devices, tracking that requires Apple's App Tracking Transparency authorization occurs only after the required authorization. A device permission does not replace any separate legal consent requirement. You may manage notifications and certain advertising permissions through your device settings and through privacy controls we make available.

6. Marketing and the free Premium account

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the message or by contacting info@bizbyte.ai You may continue to receive necessary account, security and service communications. Push notifications can be disabled through device settings or applicable in-app controls. Providing a work email or other professional information to obtain the free Premium account does not itself authorize optional marketing or targeted advertising. Where applicable law treats the provision of Premium access in exchange for personal information as a financial incentive, loyalty benefit or similar arrangement, BizByte will provide the disclosures and choices required by that law.

7. Retention and deletion

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including service operation, security, legal obligations and dispute resolution.

  • Account and professional-profile information: while needed for an active account and, after account closure, normally deleted or anonymised within 30 days, subject to lawful exceptions.
  • Reading history, searches, preferences and advertising profiles: up to 24 months after inactivity, subject to shorter periods where appropriate or longer retention required by law.
  • Diagnostics, security logs and analytics: generally between 180 days and 12 months, depending on purpose and security requirements.
  • Support and complaint records: generally up to 24 months after resolution.
  • Al inputs and outputs: according to the applicable feature, provider terms and the purpose for which they are retained.
  • Consent and privacy-choice records: retained as necessary to demonstrate and honour the user's choices and comply with law.
  • Backups: may persist for a limited recovery period, generally within a 90-day backup cycle.

We may retain limited information where required for legal holds, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution or other legal obligations.

8. Your requests and account deletion

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, portability, withdrawal of consent, restriction or objection to certain processing, and opt out of applicable targeted advertising, sale or sharing. Contact info@bizbyte.ai to submit a request. Please describe the request and provide enough information for us to locate the relevant account. We may reasonably verify identity before completing certain requests. Account deletion is available through the account/profile deletion function where enabled and through info@bizbyte.ai Uninstalling the app does not by itself delete your account. We respond within the time required by applicable law. Where a request is denied, we will explain the reason and any applicable appeal process.

9. Additional United States disclosures

U.S. privacy rights vary by state and depend on the applicable law and statutory requirements. Where applicable, rights may include confirmation of processing, access, correction, deletion, portability and opt-outs from sale, targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do not use personal information to make decisions about credit, employment, insurance or other similarly significant matters. For California residents, the categories of information BizByte may collect include identifiers and account information; professional or employment information; internet, app and network activity; approximate location derived from IP address; and inferences about interests and preferences. Sources may include the user, the user's device, authentication providers and news/content suppliers. Where California law requires additional disclosures concerning sale, sharing, targeted advertising, sensitive personal information or financial incentives, BizByte will provide those disclosures and the applicable choices through this Policy or the privacy choices mechanism made available to users. BizByte will not discriminate against a user for exercising applicable privacy rights. We will recognise Global Privacy Control and other legally recognised opt-out signals where required by applicable law and technically supported.

10. United Kingdom information

For UK users, BizByte determines an appropriate lawful basis for each processing activity. Depending on the activity, the lawful basis may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, legal obligation or consent. Optional advertising, non-essential tracking and marketing will be subject to consent where required. UK users may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection and withdrawal of consent, subject to applicable legal conditions. Users may object to direct marketing at any time. Complaints may be made to the Information Commissioner's Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/. If BizByte is required by UK law to appoint a UK representative, the representative's details will be made available in this Policy or through the Service before the requirement applies.

11. India information

BizByte Media Private Limited is based in India. Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applicable rules apply to relevant processing, BizByte acts as a Data Fiduciary for that processing. Users in India may contact info@bizbyte.ai to request applicable information, correction, updating or erasure, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, or raise a grievance.

BizByte will comply with applicable Indian privacy, security, consent, retention and grievance requirements as they apply to the relevant processing.

12. International processing

BizByte operates from India and may use service providers that process information in India, the United States and other countries where those providers operate. For example, AWS may process or store information in the United States. International transfers will be made using a lawful transfer mechanism or safeguard where required by applicable law. A cross-border transfer does not reduce mandatory privacy protections available to you under the law that applies to your information.

13. Children and teenagers

BizByte is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have done so without the legally required consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it, subject to lawful exceptions. Where applicable law provides additional protections for users under 18, BizByte will apply those protections, including restrictions on targeted advertising or other processing where required. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided personal information may contact info@bizbyte.ai

14. Security and changes

We apply administrative, technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the nature and risk of the information we process. These measures may include encrypted transmission, appropriate protection of stored information, access controls, authentication controls, least-privilege access, security logging, patching, vendor security requirements and incident-response procedures. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We will investigate security incidents and notify affected users or authorities where required by law. We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, technology or legal requirements change. We will show the revised effective date and provide prominent notice of material changes where required. Where a new processing purpose requires consent, we will obtain the consent required by applicable law.
